The 2024 Major League Baseball season left the Los Angeles Dodgers as champions after beating the New York Yankees in five games. This duel in the World Series looked a bit uneven, as the California franchise won three games in a row in a resounding manner.
With the trophy in hand, one of the players from the champion team, reliever Joe Kelly, highlighted the low level of the Yankees in the World Series and assured that they were not a top rival in the fight for the championship.
Recently during the podcast Baseball Isn’t Boring Kelly assured that the Yankees players “were lazy” and that is why they only achieved one victory in the World Series.
Furthermore, the experienced reliever emphasized that the level they gave was very low and that if he had to make a classification, he would put the Yankees as the worst team in the 2024 playoffs.
“We had seen it every game, we just let them throw the ball into the infield, they couldn’t make a play. “If we had a new playoff seeding, they could be ranked as the eighth or ninth best team in the playoffs.”Kelly explained.
He even claimed that teams like the Atlanta Braves, who failed to even advance from the Wild Card Series, were better than the Yankees. “I would put the Padres ahead of them (the Yankees), I would put the Phillies ahead of them, the Mets ahead of them, even the Braves ahead of them, and the Braves were just unlucky because they had than playing that doubleheader”.
On the other hand, the pitcher stated that the Dodgers were confident enough from the beginning that they would easily beat the Yankees in the World Series. “All we knew was that we had to play regular Dodgers baseball. We didn’t have to do anything crazy, and we were going to win the World Series. They are facts. Just look at the team, look at the talent,” the reliever concluded.
