There is no peace for Joel Embiid. When the star of the Philadelphia 76ers she now seemed close to returning to the field, the NBA announced they had suspended him for 3 games. The reason is obviously the argument, with associated shoving, between Embiid and a journalist from the Philadelphia Inquirer, guilty of having used the player’s son and his brother who died several years ago in an article to accuse the Sixers center of lacking professionalism. Despite the reporter’s apologies, Embiid went into a rage post-game of the last game against Memphis.
Before the suspension, Embiid’s season debut was scheduled for Wednesday against the Los Angeles Clippers. So far the player has not played a single preseason game with the Sixers due to knee problems that have been plaguing him for months. The long wait to see him back on the pitch had made the pretentious Philadelphia crowd nervous, a circumstance that had already provoked a reaction from Embiid in recent days in front of the cameras. Then, of course, the episode with the journalist.
The NBA cares a lot about the behavior of its players in the media area and is used to issuing fines for missed interviews. Here Joel Embiid did even worse, coming into physical contact with a journalist: an attitude to which the League could not turn a blind eye.
