Judo, Georgia beats Ukraine in the play-off and wins the team event of the U23 European Championships

After having excelled in the medal table reserved for individual categories, the Georgia it also imposes itself in team test of the 2024 European Under 23 Judo Championships. Today’s Team Event represented the last act of the continental youth event staged on the Piła tatami (in Poland), with Italy not entered into the competition.

The Italian expedition therefore ended with a satisfactory haul of 7 overall podiums, thanks to Giuseppe De Tullio’s gold in the -66 kg category and six other medals distributed equally between silver and bronze. Moving on to today’s match, the Georgian triumph only materialized in the play-off in the final againstUkraine which put the title up for grabs.

Georgia prevailed 4-3 thanks to the double success over Vladyslav Kolobov by Akaki Japaridze (-90 kg), who first equalized the score at 3-3 and then also found the decisive point for the gold medal. The other two Georgian points in the last act bear the signature of Irakli Demetrashvili in the heavyweight category and Giorgi Loladze in the -73 kg category.

The Team Event podium at the Under-23 European Championships was completed by Germany and the Netherlands, who beat Israel and Romania 4-1 in their respective bronze finals.
