The European Open of Rome 2024 took place on 9-10 November at the PalaPellicone in Ostia, an event which saw the participation of 224 athletes from 28 nations.
Italy dominated the medal table, winning six gold, three silver and thirteen bronze in this competition on the IJF World Tour circuit, a total haul of 22 medals, never won before in an Open.

On the first day of competition, the thirty-year-old Irene Pedrotti conquered the top step of the podium, her first gold medal in the World Cup and the first gold for Italy.
Irene dominated the 70 kg category, thanks to victories over Antonietta Palumbo (Ita), Vera Zemanova (Cze) and, in the final, over the German Giovanna Scoccimarro, winner of the previous year’s category.

«Irene’s performance was great – said the head coach of the women’s Italy team, Francesco Bruyere – especially the final match with the strong German athlete, confirming the leap in quality made in this four-year period.
«Winning at home is always nice and exciting and for her this is an excellent starting point for the four-year period that has already begun.»
