The final of the Judo Swabian League captivated the audience in Wemding with exciting fights right up to the last fight. From the home team’s perspective, however, the last encounter ended in disappointment. The best teams in Swabia met at the weekend for the final battles of this year’s district league season in the Wemdinger town hall. In addition to sports speaker Roland Schuster, TSV chairwoman Bianka Maier also welcomed the guests to the pilgrimage city. The fighting community from Kaufbeuren and. went with a clear lead Kempten at the start and should achieve a confident start-to-finish victory at the end. Placed behind them, the fighters from TSV Wemding started in a promising second position. After an opening defeat against the eventual winners, league coaches Marco Schmidt and Markus Lachner’s protégés were able to celebrate a clear victory against the fighting community from Lindau / Memmingen. In an extremely close encounter against the judokas from Friedberg, the TSV fighters had to accept a narrow defeat, meaning that the lead from the first half of the season was lost for the home team. In the last encounter there was a small final between Wemdinger and TSV Königsbrunn, which was supposed to decide on places two to four. The cast includes Leo Eisen (-66 kg), Jürgen Jung (-73 kg), Alexander Lachner (-81 kg), Benedikt Braun (-81 kg), Fritz Meyr (-90 kg) and Jonathan Stecher (+90 kg) Luck wasn’t on the hosts’ side. Despite loud support from the edge of the mat, the team suffered its third defeat of the day and had to settle for fourth place behind Königsbrunn and Friedberg due to a single fight. Finally, Fritz Meyr was named league fighter of the season to great applause. With strong fights and exemplary behavior on and off the mat, he proved to be an important pillar of the Wemdingen team this year.
