The Kansas City Chiefs only won in overtime in an exciting game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. This was Tampa Bay’s third straight loss.

The Kansas City Chiefs continued their winning streak and won their eighth game, but had to go into overtime in the “Monday Night Game” against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and won 30:24 (the statistics for the game). The Chiefs are the only undefeated team in the NFL and have an 8-0 record.
With 27 seconds left in regulation, the Buccaneers’ Ryan Miller caught a touchdown pass from Baker Mayfield. With the associated extra point, the game was evened. According to head coach Todd Bowles, there was “very little” thought given to forcing a possible win with a two-point conversion.
“We wanted to take it to overtime,” Bowles said. “With the wet conditions on the field we felt we needed to go for overtime rather than go for two.” Chiefs head coach Andy Reid later said with a grin: “I’m glad he didn’t do it.”
Hunt makes overtime victory perfect
In overtime, the Chiefs got the ball first and completed their drive with a touchdown within ten plays. Kareem Hunt ran into the end zone and sealed the win.
Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes completed 34 of his 44 passes for 291 yards and three touchdowns. He injured his ankle and was limping, but was able to continue playing. “We did a lot of things well early in the game, but couldn’t finish the drives,” Mahomes said after the game. “Kareem then took it upon himself and ran the ball. In the end we did it.”
Tampa Bay passer Baker Mayfield completed 23 of his 31 pass attempts for 200 yards and two touchdowns. Both playmakers had no turnovers.
DeAndre Hopkins with two touchdowns
DeAndre Hopkins, who was traded from the Tennessee Titans to the Chiefs on October 24th, played a great game. He was sacked nine times, catching eight passes for 86 yards and two touchdowns. “He wins the one-on-one duels, I trust him,” praised Mahomes.
Tight end Travis Kelce recorded 100 receiving yards, but also caused the game’s only turnover with a fumble.
Defensive tackle Vita Vea stood out positively for the Buccaneers, recording ten tackles and two sacks. His position colleague Calijah Kancey also had two sacks.
Buccaneers are in a results crisis
The Buccaneers lost their third game in a row and have a 4-5 record. “It’s tough,” Bowles said. “We can’t get used to losing. That’s the most important thing. We had some great plays, kept getting going, but they (the Chiefs) were more effective than us. We fought, but it wasn’t good enough , so we have to prepare for the next game next week.”
Tampa Bay hosts the San Francisco 49ers next Sunday. “We have guys that won’t stop fighting until the end,” Tampa Bay wide receiver Sterling Shepard said. “I’m really proud of the group and the way everyone fought. We just need to fix a few little things. That’s what this league is all about.”
The Chiefs also have a home game against the Denver Broncos next week on Sunday.
