One step away from the podium. All the Italian teams will compete tomorrow – November 24th – to win the bronze medal at the world karate championships underway in Pamplona. Thanks to the good results obtained in the second day of qualifying.
The men’s kata boys stopped by Türkiye
Let’s start with the male kata. Busato, Gallo and Iodice started by winning all their round robin matches against North Macedonia, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Brazil. In the quarterfinals, they overcame the Iranian team (42.60 to 41.10), before being defeated in the semifinals by the strong Turkish team (42.30 to 43.20).
Women’s Kumite, the final fades
The women’s kumite, with Clio Ferracuti, Anna Pia Desiderio, Pamela Bodei, Giulia Angelucci and Viola Lallo, had an excellent run, placing first in the round robin with victories over Ecuador, Kosovo, Taipei and Hungary. They eliminated Turkey in the quarterfinals, but lost to the United States 2-1 in the semifinals.
Even the semi-finals won yesterday saw both Italian teams lose against very prepared opponents. The women’s kata team, reigning world champions, lost to Portugal (41.7 to 40.9), while the boys’ kumite team surrendered to Egypt (3-1).
The anticipation for the finals is growing
Tomorrow’s final block, therefore, sees all four Italian teams still competing and chasing a place on the podium. For bronze, the men’s kumite team will face Japan, while the other three teams will face the Spanish teams.
