Former CSKA Moscow defender Vladimir Ponomarev in an interview with Gazeta.Ru said that the defeat of the army team in the 16th round match of the Russian Premier League (RPL) against Rostov was due to Valery Karpin’s decision to simplify the game of his players.

“Karpin outplayed Nikolic, releasing another tall player in the end, Golenkov, and starting to play as a worker and peasant. In our time, this is how they played in the Second League in class “B”. Everyone piled into the penalty area and served – but no one knows where the ball will bounce off the head. Diveev hit the crossbar like that – how is that possible? On your own goal? Okay, at least I didn’t hit it. But then Golenkov finished off and brought Rostov victory,” Ponomarev said.

The meeting, held at the VEB Arena stadium, ended with a score of 2:1 in favor of the guests. The first goal was scored by army defender Kelven in the 4th minute, but Rostov forward Egor Golenkov responded with two accurate shots at the end – in the 77th and 89th minutes.

“Gazeta.Ru” conducted an online text broadcast events.

In the national championship standings, CSKA remained in sixth place. Marko Nikolic’s team has 27 points. Rostov is in eighth place with 20 points. The leader in the table is St. Petersburg Zenit with 39 points.

Previously Vladimir Ponomarev named unexpected defeat from Rostov in the 16th round of the RPL.
