Nishikori, 34 years old and former world No. 4, reached the final four at the Slovakia Open 2024 (Slovakia/Bratislava, indoor hard, ATP Challenger) last week. He won five matches in this tournament, marking his first victory in an official tournament since last June’s Caribbean Open (Puerto Rico/Palmas del Mar, Hard, ATP Challenger).
Nishikori’s comments after the tournament are posted on the tournament’s official website.
“It was a really tight week and the final was a very competitive match. Luca (Nardi) played great and I almost missed my chance. In the end, I played consistently and that’s why we won. The last two games were long and it was the last tournament of the season, so we gave it our all.”
“Next year, my goal is to win as many matches as possible. Right now, I’m approaching the top 100, and my next goal is to be in the top 50, but I think the most important thing is to keep winning.”
Nishikori has risen to 107th in the world rankings as of November 11th.
