La Pampa shines in the Araucanía 2024 Binational Games with an outstanding performance
The Pampas delegation finished in third place in the general classification in the XXXI Binational Games of Araucanía, which were held in the cities of Coyhaique, Puerto Aysén and Punta Arenas. With notable performance in multiple disciplines, La Pampa accumulated 168 points, ranking behind Río Negro (177) and Chubut (171).
The competition, which brought together 1,700 athletes from six Argentine provinces and seven regions in southern Chile, included volleyball, basketball, soccer, judo, athletics, cycling and swimming. The Pampas delegation stood out for its consistency and effort, managing to remain on the overall podium for the third consecutive year.
Men’s volleyball: total dominance and gold
The La Pampa men’s volleyball team reached gold after a resounding victory against Río Negro by 3 to 0. In a match played at the San José Obrero School in Coyhaique, the Pampas team dominated with an impeccable performance led by central defender Leonardo Herbsommer. Led by Enrique Leaniz and assisted by Marcos López, the players showed a solid offensive that left their rivals without a response.
“It is an honor to achieve this championship. I dedicate it to the boys, to the clubs that formed them and to Gustavo ‘Toby’ Sapa, who will always be remembered,” said Leaniz after the victory.
Women’s volleyball: silver medal after a tight final
In an exciting final, the women’s volleyball team fell to Bío Bío 3 to 2 in a tie break that reflected the intensity of the match. The Pampas, led by Catalina Arrigone, showed determination and ability to come back, but the Chileans adjusted their strategy in decisive moments to win the gold.
Soccer: men’s gold and women’s bronze
The men’s soccer team regained the title by beating Ñuble 2-0 with goals from Bruno Fernández and Fabricio Piacenza. Meanwhile, the women’s team took the bronze after beating Río Negro 5-4 on penalties, with an outstanding performance by Constanza Pacheco and an effective closing in the shootout from twelve steps.
Cycling and judo: outstanding results
The cyclist Maia Berau shone by winning the street test, marking a milestone for the women’s team that finished eighth overall. In judo, the men’s team reached third place, consolidating the Pampas performance in combat sports.
A positive balance
La Pampa’s performance in the 2024 Araucanía Binational Games highlights the impact of training work, collective effort and public policies to support sport. This result reinforces the province’s commitment to sports development and its ability to compete at the highest level at the binational level.
