The Sportforum Schlaatz will comprise two double halls on an area of 8,300 square meters, which can be used both for school sports and for competitions in sports such as fencing, inline skater hockey, roller skating and football. In addition, special training areas are planned for judo, wrestling, weightlifting and bouldering. Club and social rooms create space for encounters between clubs, schools and residents.
A special highlight will be the accessible green roof, which not only serves as a green oasis but also as a meeting point for residents. “The Sportforum Schlaatz will become a sporting home for schools and clubs in the south of Potsdam,” explained KIS plant manager Bernd Richter. “Thanks to modern architecture and multifunctional equipment, we create space for popular and club sports at the highest level.”
The construction costs of the project amount to around 32 million euros. The sports forum is part of the state capital’s comprehensive investments in education and sport: In 2024, around 46 million euros will flow into the construction and modernization of schools and sports facilities.
The sports forum area is complemented by extensive outdoor facilities, which also enhance the district with leisure and exercise areas. An integration garden is planned to be completed by autumn 2025, which will harmoniously round off the new offerings. Construction work on the sports forum is scheduled to be completed by spring 2027.
“Our goal is to create a modern sports facility by summer 2026 that enriches the cityscape and at the same time offers long-term, sustainable usage prospects,” emphasized Bernd Richter.
