Charles Leclerc crossed the finish line of the São Paulo Grand Prix in fifth position and scored 10 points for Ferrari. Carlos Sainz experienced two accidents during Sunday.
Monaco’s Leclerc finished the rain-marred race in Brazil in fifth place behind winner Max Verstappen, both Alpina drivers and Mercedes’ George Russell.
“It was a very long and difficult race and the riders on the podium today are the ones who didn’t make a mistake, so they deserve it. I have mixed feelings about our race,” said Leclerc.
“On the one hand, it’s a bit disappointing because we had a hard time keeping the car on the track in these conditions, especially towards the end of the race given how we decided to set up the car for today’s race.
“On the other hand, we finished ahead of both McLarens, which is a positive surprise and helps our fight in the Constructors’ Cup.”
Sainz crashed twice on Sunday
Carlos Sainz did not have a good Sunday in Brazil, crashing in both morning qualifying and the afternoon race, in which he also started from the pits after Ferrari installed a completely new power unit, gearbox and other components in his car after the morning accident.
“For me, this is definitely a Sunday I want to forget. I regret giving the team work in an already long day. This year I’m struggling with this car in the wet and I didn’t feel good today either,” said Sainz.
“I tried to push and take a bit of risk to get some positions and it didn’t work out. It’s a tough Sunday, but we’ll turn the page and reset everything before Las Vegas.”
