The German Handball Association does not want to simply accept the legal defeat before the Dortmund regional court in the case of ex-coach André Fuhr. He is appealing.
The German Handball Association is exhausting its legal remedies after the legal defeat in the case of former coach André Fuhr. The DHB announced in a statement that the association will appeal against the judgments made by the Dortmund Regional Court on November 15th in accordance with a unanimous executive committee decision. This will be formally done shortly at the responsible Higher Regional Court in Hamm.
Almost two weeks ago, the Dortmund regional court came to the conclusion in an interim injunction procedure that the DHB had to end the work of an independent commission that had been set up. This confirmed the judgment of the Hamm Higher Regional Court from July. In the main proceedings, the court decided that disciplinary proceedings should be initiated within the framework of the DHB’s trainer regulations.
Fuhr had resisted the fact that the DHB had set up an external commission to deal with allegations made by numerous players. The players accuse the 53-year-old of abuse of power and emotional violence. After the allegations by national players Mia Zschocke and Amelie Berger became known in September 2022, Borussia Dortmund and the DHB, where Fuhr had trained the U20, separated from him.
DHB is “firmly determined”
In an interview with “Sport Bild”, former BVB coach Fuhr largely distanced himself from the allegations. “Based on what I have read, I can only say: There are events that did not take place. There are events that did not take place. There are events that I cannot remember in the form described or have a different memory,” said Fuhr.
“We very much regret that those affected have to wait for answers and are therefore unable to come to terms with what they have experienced,” said DHB President Andreas Michelmann about the latest court decision: “It is our substantive and moral obligation to continue to do everything we can to ensure a successful outcome We are therefore determined to take further legal action.”
