The Professional Women’s Hockey League (LPHF) is studying more than 25 proposals for possible expansion, while the LPHF is analyzing the possibility of adding two teams next season.
Certain markets have been targeted by the league, while other groups have expressed interest, according to what the senior vice-president of commercial operations of the league said. LPHFAmy Scheer, à CBC Sports.
At the moment, the six teams (Montreal, Ottawa, Minnesota, Minnesota and New York) are owned by single interests. Mark Walter, the co-owner of Dodgers of Los Angeles, in major baseball, is currently the sole owner of the clubs.
The possibility of acquiring a franchise is often part of conversations Amy Scheer has had.
They all asked when they could buy a team or invest in the league. It is at Walter Group to decide. For now, the directive is to explore what an expansion might look like. I don’t know what the future will hold.
The LPHF will play nine games this season on neutral ground, which could serve in some cases to test the interest and viability of women’s hockey in these cities. Three matches will be presented in Canada, in Vancouver, Edmonton and Quebec.
Amy Sheer and the circuit’s vice-president of hockey operations, Jayna Hefford, will meet with the media on Tuesday in anticipation of the start of the season, which will take place on Saturday.
