Malmö FF Secures Future with Isaac Kiese Thelin Extension: What This Means for the Club

Having recently secured his fourth SM gold with the association, it is now clear that Isaac Kiese Thelin and Malmö FF are extending the player’s contract for another two years.

Isaac Kiese Thelin came to Malmö FF for the first time back in 2014, and it was an instant success when he helped lead the team to both a SM gold and a historic group stage in the UEFA Champions League.

After that, the transfer package went to Europe, before Isaac returned to Malmö for a season on loan from Anderlecht in 2020. 14 new goals from the striker helped MFF to another SM gold.

In 2022, the most successful chapter in Isaac Kiese Thelin’s time at Malmö FF began when he returned permanently – a chapter filled with both goals and titles. The association’s first title in the Swedish Cup in 33 years was salvaged in 2022 and was followed up by another SM gold in 2023, where Isaac also won the Allsvenskan shooting league with 16 goals. With one Allsvenskan match left to play, the MFF striker now has 15 goals and has secured both a new SM gold and a new cup gold during this year’s season.

From his first time in Malmö FF as a young 22-year-old, to his return as one of the most experienced players in the team, Isaac Kiese Thelin has always proven to be a key player for Malmö FF.

Daniel Andersson, sports director:

— It obviously feels very good. Isaac is a player who always works extremely hard for the team and is a reliable goalscorer with sharpness in the penalty area. He has grown into an important leader for us and means a lot to many in the dressing room. Securing him for another year feels fantastic.

— In addition to being skilled in the penalty area, he is strong, good on the wrong side and important in our play-up phase. Isaac is a smart player who, like many others, gets even better when he has teammates close to him – but he can also play alone.

Isaac Kiese Thelin:

— I enjoy myself incredibly well here. I’ve had my absolute best moments here, I love being here, feel appreciated and want to be involved and continue to build on what we’re doing. So in the end it was an obvious decision, I must say.

— We must continue to raise the bar even more and continue to win. We have now won SM gold two years in a row, and we will try to win a third. Then we just have to continue in the same way, win and improve all the time, that’s what I want to be part of doing. I always try to give everything and push the team, and I will continue to do that until I stop playing football. It feels good that Daniel [Andersson] and everyone around appreciates what I do and feels that it is important. I am so keen on more SM gold, cup titles and European matches.
