The Chelsea Police Department is investigating a fatal crash that occurred Wednesday afternoon on a city street.
Officers responded to a report of an accident shortly before 2:00 p.m. and observed what appeared to be an apparent collision of a moped into a westbound utility pole on Marginal Street near Highland Avenue.
The driver of the moped, who suffered fatal injuries, was later pronounced dead at Mass General Hospital in Boston, police said.
Authorities say preliminary evidence indicates that no other vehicles were involved in the incident.
At this time, the victim’s identity has not been released pending family notifications.
The Chelsea Police Department is working collaboratively with state police detectives assigned to the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office and accident reconstruction specialists to determine the cause of the crash.
