Marburg. The most important position in the player squad has been filled: The Marburg Mercenaries have signed quarterback Calvin Stitt for the 2025 season, as the American football club announced. The 27-year-old Brit brings a lot of experience from European leagues to the regional league team.

After starting with the Sussex Thunder in England, Stitt moved to the United States in 2015, where he played for Artesia High School in California until 2017. He then put what he learned there into practice in top leagues in Europe: with the Allgäu Comets in the German Football League (GFL), in Denmark with the Copenhagen Towers, with Berlin Thunder in the European League of Football (ELF) and most recently with the Lazio Ducks in Italy.
Stitt is “a quarterback who has already played at a high level in Europe. “Through his variable game, he brings some of the options and qualities that we were looking for,” Carsten Weber, who acts as offensive coordinator in head coach Jimmy Yock’s coaching team, was quoted as saying in a statement.
The Marburg “mercenaries” withdrew from the GFL after the 2023 season. Last season they reached second place in the third-class Regionalliga Mitte with US playmaker Johnathan Lewis and thus missed the desired jump into the GFL2. Next year they want to play for promotion again.
