Mats Hummels moved to Rome with great ambitions. But he is still left out in the capital.
AS Roma suffered another defeat. The Italian capital club lost 2-3 against Hellas Verona. World champion Mats Hummels, who made an unsuccessful debut with an own goal after coming on as a substitute in the 5-1 defeat at Fiorentina a week ago, was again just on the bench.
Roma came from behind twice before conceding the decisive goal from Abdou Harroui in the final phase (88th minute). With 13 points from eleven games, the capital club is already well behind the international places.
At lunchtime, Napoli deservedly lost 0:3 (0:2) against Europa League winners Atalanta. It was the first league defeat since the 3-0 defeat at Hellas Verona on the first matchday, after which the SSC remained unbeaten for nine games in a row. The outstanding ex-Leipzig player Ademola Lookman (10th/31st) and Mateo Retegui (90th + 2) scored the goals.
Inter Milan, on the other hand, won a 1-0 mandatory win against Venice. World champion Lautaro Martínez redeemed the 20-time title holder, who had been struggling for a long time, with his header goal (65th). Inter dominated in the first half, but missed several top-class chances.
In the end, the defending champion even had to thank goalkeeper Yann Sommer for not going into the break with a deficit: The ex-Gladbach player saved against Gaetano Oristanio with a great reaction (41′).
