The Gala Sports Québec once again celebrated the excellence of the Quebec sports community on the occasion of its 51e edition presented Thursday evening at the Anjou Metropolitan Golf Club and organized by SPORTSQUÉBEC. The gala opened in the company of Isabelle Charest, Minister responsible for Sport, Leisure and the Outdoors, and Sébastien Théberge, president of SPORTSQUÉBEC.

Among the stars of the gala, we find Rimouski weightlifter Maude Charron, winner of the Maurice for female athlete of the year at the international level.

Gold medalist at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, Maude charmed the country during the Paris Games by winning the silver medal in 59 kg, her new category. A few days earlier, she was named Canada’s flag bearer alongside Andre De Grasse for the opening ceremony which took place on the Seine, in the heart of the French capital.

Freestyle skier Mikaël Kingsbury was named international male athlete of the year. The King of Moguls added to an unrivaled record this past campaign, now holding the most World Cup victories in any discipline, with a total of 90.

Kingsbury won no less than 14 World Cup medals last season, including 10 gold. It now has 12 large crystal globes and 13 small globes, two other international records. This is Maurice’s tenth of his career in this category.

The Jacques-Beauchamp Hommage was, for its part, awarded to Rodger Brulotte. Known as a pillar of baseball in Quebec, he dedicated himself for more than 40 years to promoting the sport among young people, inspiring numerous generations. President of the Junior Elite Baseball League since 2011, commentator and event organizer, his “Good evening, she’s gone” will forever be engraved in the Quebec imagination.

As tradition dictates, the event once again made it possible to honor coaches, officials, athletes, volunteers, federations, as well as various sporting events which particularly stood out over the last year.

In total, 31 athletes were honored for their impressive and inspiring journey. They were also given a Team Quebec jersey during this memorable evening, tinged with great pride for the entire Quebec sports community!
