Houston Astros will now play at Daikin Park. The Major Baseball League (MBL) team has closed a fifteen-year contract with the Japanese company Daikin so that it can take over the rights to the name of its stadium, as it progresses Sporty. So far, the amount of the agreement has not been specified.
Daikin Park will be the name of the stadium from now on for the next fifteen seasons. The venue originally opened as Enron Field after the energy trading company signed a thirty-year, $100 million contract with the team. However, the company found itself involved in a complex financial situation, with skyrocketing debt.
The stars reached a settlement with Enron, paying the company $2.1 million in the process, and signed a new agreement with Minute Maid worth $100 million over a thirty-year period. Although the pact ended several years before the contract ended, the brand will remain a partner of the MBL team until 2029.
Houston Astros generated $544 million in revenue in 2023, ranking fourth in the league
“Daikin is an international company that proudly calls the Houston metropolitan area its North American home,” team owner and president Jim Crane said in a statement. “We want to thank Minute Maid and Coca-Cola for their long-standing commitment to our stadium,” he concluded.
Continuing with the MBL stadiums, Tampa Bay received approval from Pinellas County last July to begin the project of its new stadium. The public outlay is around $312 million and the stadium is expected to have a capacity for more than 30,000 spectators.
Major League Baseball started the 2024 season, which began on March 28, increasing the total aggregate attendance by almost half a million spectators at the beginning of the course. The average attendance per match during the first two months of the competition has risen to 27,779 fanscompared to 27,273 viewers in the same period of the previous season, which represents an increase of 2%.
