Tanay Mehendale (Palghar) and Shivani Herlekar (Greater Mumbai) have been given the top billing in the Men’s and Women’s Singles events respectively in the upcoming Yonex Sunrise-Maharashtra State Open Badminton Tournament 2024, to be organized by the Greater Mumbai Badminton Association (GMBA) under the auspices of Maharashtra Badminton Association (MBA).
Thane’s Shvetank Karnik has been accorded no. 2 seed is the Men’s category and is followed by Yash Tiwari (Greater Mumbai) and Soham Phatak (BAMU) as the third and fourth seeds behind talented Tanay who incidentally is also the top seed in the Boys’ Singles U-17 category.
On the other hand in the Women’s Singles competition, Shraddha Hakke (BAMU) is seeded second, while the third and fourth seeds have been accorded to Manasvi Vaidya and Netra Jhalani (BAMU) respectively.
The tournament, touted as one of the biggest in the country, is being jointly hosted by the Mumbai based National Sports Club of India (NSCI) and Willingdon Sports Club (WSC) at their respective Badminton indoor courts in nine age groups and 21 categories for Boys’ / Girls’ and Men’s / Women’s
