The national badminton team concluded its outstanding participation in the XV Mexican International 2024, held at the Poliforum Deportivo y Cultural Universitario Morelos in Aguascalientes, achieving a total of four medals in different categories. The results consolidated the efforts of the Mexican athletes, who are now preparing to face the Canadian International Challenge 2024 in December.
Individual Medals
Luis Armando Montoya and Sabrina Solís stood out in the individual competitions. Montoya won the silver medal after a close confrontation with the American Mark Alcalá, who beat him in three sets (21-15, 18-21, and 21-12). For her part, Solís took the bronze in the women’s category after losing in the semifinals to Guatemalan Nikte Sotomayor 2-0 (21-14 and 21-14).
Mixed and Women’s Doubles: Gold for Mexico
Miriam Rodríguez and Luis Armando Montoya won gold in the mixed doubles category, beating Guatemalans Christopher Martínez and Diana Corleto in the final with a score of 2-0 (21-16 and 21-11). In the women’s doubles category, Rodríguez also won gold, teaming up with Romina Fregoso. Both defeated the Mexicans Cecilia Madera and Isabella Puente with a result of 2-0 (21-16 and 21-17), reaffirming their success after winning the Pan American bronze in Santiago 2023.
Next Challenges
After this achievement in Aguascalientes, the national badminton team will focus on its next international challenge, the Canadian International Challenge 2024, which will take place in Markham from December 3 to 8.
