Mexico wins 7 medals in the Junior Pan American Judo Cup

Hidalgo Sport.- Thanks to a superlative performance on the tatami, the Mexican judo team won seven medals this Thursday (one gold, three silver and three bronze) in the Montreal 2024 Junior Pan American Cup, a competition that is part of the qualifying process heading to the Asunción 2025 Junior Pan American Games.

Rafael Ramírez emerged as the most outstanding national judoka of the day, as he was proclaimed champion of the -73 kilogram division with four consecutive wins, which he crowned by defeating the Dutchman Paolo Maaskant in the decisive fight.

The second place metals were won by Carlos Hernández (-60 kilograms), Aylin Ávila (-52 kilograms) and Yamileth Juárez (-70 kilograms), who were only one victory away from conquering glory on Canadian soil.

For their part, Eduardo Sagastegui (-60 kilograms), Hugo Sánchez (+100 kilograms) and Daniela Leandro (-48 kilograms) rose to third place on the podium to complete the harvest of medals with which the country took third place. overall, only behind Canada and the United States.

According to the Mexican Judo Federation, during the following year the two remaining events will be held that will count as qualifiers for Asunción 2025, where national athletes will try to secure their place by adding points for the world ranking.

The representative will continue with its activities throughout this weekend, since Rafael Ramírez himself will return to action this Friday in the Pan American Cadet Cup, while Juan Ramírez and José Ramírez will do the same on Saturday and Sunday in the Pan American Open.
