McCullough, 44, was hired by the Dodgers in 2015 as a minor league field coordinator, and has been the Dodgers’ first base coach under manager Dave Roberts since 2021. The Dodgers beat the New York Yankees in five games last month in the World Series, winning the eighth title in the history of the California franchise.
McCullough lives in Jupiter, Florida, north of Miami.
McCullough, a former catcher in the minor leagues, was previously the manager of the Toronto Blue Jays farm club for seven seasons. McCullough helped him finish six of his seven seasons with a record above .500.
He therefore succeeds the man who was named the manager par excellence of the National League in 2023, Skip Schumaker, who left the Florida organization in September after two seasons. The Marlins went 146-178 under Schumaker, who was hired in 2022.
The Marlins will open their season on March 27 against the Pittsburgh Pirates.
