Serie A side Milan took on Monza on Saturday and the game saw Rafael Leao start from the bench once again.
The Portuguese hasn’t started for the club in the last three games and things haven’t been great for him. Reports have spoken of a potential breakdown in relationship with manager Paulo Fonseca, who has been quite clear about what he wants from his player.
Before the game against Monza, Fonseca spoke to Sky about Leao’s situation and he stated clearly that there is no conflict in the relationship and that he is only making ‘choices’ that suit the team.
He said, as relayed by TMW: “I don’t want to go into details. For me it’s just a choice, there’s no conflict. It’s just an option, I know how things are. What’s important for me today is to have a team to win in Monza.”
It is quite clear that Fonseca wants Leao to apply himself more towards the good of the team and that has been clear from reports as well, which suggest that the manager expects the star to be more active off the ball and unless that doesn’t happen, Leao will not be a regular part of the side.
