Milan-Juventus 0-0, our scattered considerations

At San Siro Milan and Juventus don’t get hurt, between the Rossoneri and Bianconeri it ends goalless.

Boredom won between Milan and Juventus. Those who expected an exciting match full of twists and turns with many opportunities for both sides were not satisfied. One came out very close gametactical and with little entertainment for neutral and non-neutral fans. For the Bianconeri it is the seventh draw in the league and the fourth 0-0, they are now equal on points with the large group made up of Lazio, Fiorentina and Atalanta, as well as one point behind Napoli and three points from Inter. The Rossoneri, however, remain six points behind Juventus, but with a game in hand, while the other teams listed above have the chance to extend and escape.

So many absences for the Bianconeri: a half alibi? It shouldn’t be the only excuse or the only reason why Juventus created very little this evening, but it must still be taken into consideration. The starting eleven of the Bianconeri was practically forced considering the absences of Nico Gonzalez, Douglas Luiz and Vlahovic as well as those of Bremer and Cabal which will last until the end of the season. Adzic, then, is already the third time he has stopped due to a muscle problem, while Milik is now almost a mysterious object wandering around Continassa. Juventus could have created more and certainly played better, but not having even a striker available and an offensive substitution without Weah and Mbangula (who entered in the 80th and 91st minutes respectively) are certainly two factors that have had a negative impact on the Juventus gameplan.

No, without Vlahovic Juventus doesn’t play better. Somewhat controversially, it is a response to journalists and fans on social media who have been claiming for months that without the Serbian the Bianconeri can play better football or that if Juventus doesn’t create chances it’s partly their fault. Well, looking at tonight’s match we can easily disprove this thesis. Without Dusan Vlahovic, Juventus is a much more predictable team, the offensive maneuver is much more static and they simply lack a point of reference. Playing without an attacking midfielder doesn’t benefit the Bianconeri who don’t have a solid striker who can play the blocks, serve the wingers or create spaces for his teammates to come forward. Offensively the Bianconeri were static this evening and never gave even for a second the idea that they could do against Milan.

The right lane, well defended by both teams. On the one hand, Milan could scare by counting on the left flank in which they could count on the Leao-Theo Hernandez tandem, but the duo formed by Savona e Conceição he responded more than present, limiting the two Rossoneri very well. The Juventus right-back played his best match of the season, playing ninety minutes almost like a veteran with great calm and attention. The Portuguese, on the other hand, was not very precise and lively in the offensive phase, but played a very high-quality covering game. The Bianconeri, on the other hand, wanted to strike on the left with Star e Cambiaso in an attempt to embarrass Emerson Royalbut the paper Moses played by Fonseca limited this Juventus plan very well.

Now, for both, the Champions League. Milan will fly to Slovakia to face Slovan Bratislava away on Tuesday with the hope of an easy victory that can give continuity to the great triumph at the Santiago Bernabeu. The Rossoneri are in twentieth place with 6 points, so no missteps are allowed. Juventus, on the other hand, is awaiting a much more complicated away match: in Birmingham against Aston Villa who beat Bayern Munich at home just over a month ago. THE Villa’s they are a difficult team and Unai Emery has already caged the Bianconeri once in the top European competition. Thiago Motta’s boys, however, need to get back to the three points after the defeat against Stuttgart and the draw against Lille, at Villa Park they have to do everything to get a victory and maybe getting someone back from the infirmary could be a good thing starting point.
