The future of minor baseball in Matane is assured: a new president has been appointed to head the Association, Isabelle Lavoie.

Remember that activities were compromised for the next season, following the departures of several administrators, including president Jérôme Caron.

“We met yesterday. There were 7 or 8 people ready to get involved and we were able to create a board of directors. David Bérubé will return as vice-president. We also appointed a treasurer and a secretary,” mentions the new president of the Matane Minor Baseball Association Isabelle Lavoie.

Some projects are already on the table for the 2024-2025 season.

“Several people raised their hands to help us develop projects, I’m thinking among others of the midget tournament we had last year. We have a team and we have to take care of it. There are several small projects that we are putting back in place or that we want to add for our young people,” suggests Isabelle Lavoie.

The board of directors will also look into attracting new clientele in an effort to expand the popularity of baseball among young people. Sources of income will also have to be found.

“For the team that was around the table yesterday, the goal was clear: we wanted minor baseball to stay in Matane. It is an important sport for the city. Of course, there is work to be done to increase its popularity. Yesterday, we created a sponsorship team. It must be said, the team that was there before us was small and certain things were neglected, such as financing. To get the season off to a good start, we need partners,” concludes the president.
