MLB: THESE ARE THE FINALIST STARS FOR THE 2024 MLB AWARDS

MLB: PAUL SKENES ESTABLISHES A HISTORIC SEASON AND IS A FINALIST FOR CY YOUNG AND ROOKIE OF THE YEAR

The finalists for the annual awards of the MLB 2024 have been announced by the BBWAA (Baseball Writers Association of America), and a number of big names stand out in the most important categories of the season, including slugger Aaron Judge, the catcher Austin Wells, the Dominicans Juan Soto and Luis Gil, the Japanese Shohei Ohtani and the Venezuelan leader Carlos Mendoza.

These players, along with other notable players, have been selected among the most voted for the Most Valuable Player (MVP), Cy Young, Rookie of the Year and Manager of the Year awards, whose final votes will be announced next week.

MVP

In the American League, the finalists for the MVP are Aaron Judge of the New York Yankees, Juan Soto of the San Diego Padres and Bobby Witt Jr. of the Kansas City Royals. Judge, who has been a pillar of the Yankees’ offense, will seek his second MVP, while Soto, with his unique hitting ability, and Witt Jr., who has been a key in the Royals lineup, will compete for the prestigious award.

For its part, in the National League, the MVP will be disputed between Shohei Ohtani, who made history by becoming the first player with 50 home runs and 50 steals in the same season with the Los Angeles Dodgers, Francisco Lindor of the New York Mets and Ketel Marte of the Arizona Diamondbacks. Ohtani, with his dream season, is one of the favorites, but Lindor and Marte also have solid arguments to win the award.

CY YOUNG

In the award for the best pitcher in the American League, the finalists are Pull Skubal of the Detroit Tigers, who is the big favorite, Seth Lugo of the Kansas City Royals and Emmanuel Clase of the Cleveland Guardians. Clase, who has been one of the most dominant closers in the league, finds himself in a close fight with the other two pitchers, especially with Skubal, who has left his mark with his effectiveness and dominance on the mound.

In the National League, Cy Young finalists include Chris Sale of the Atlanta Braves, Zack Wheeler of the Philadelphia Phillies and rookie sensation Paul Skenes of the Pittsburgh Pirates. Skenes, who has had a spectacular season, is the first rookie in this group, making his inclusion a historic fact in the voting.

rookie of the year

In the American League, the Rookie of the Year will be contested between Luis Gil of the New York Yankees, Austin Wells of the New York Yankees and Colton Cowser of the Baltimore Orioles. All of them have shown great skills in their debut seasons, but it will be interesting to see if Gil, with his impact in the bullpen, or Wells, with his skill behind the plate, can win the trophy.

On the other hand, in the National League, the finalists for Rookie of the Year are Paul Skenes of the Pittsburgh Pirates, Jackson Chourio of the Milwaukee Brewers and Jackson Merrill of the San Diego Padres. Skenes, who had a historic season with the Pirates, has been one of the most important revelations of 2024, while Chourio and Merrill were also key to their teams’ success.

Manager of the year

For Manager of the Year, National League finalists include Carlos Mendoza of the New York Mets, who led the Mets to the championship series in his managerial debut, Pat Murphy of the Milwaukee Brewers and Mike Shildt of the San Diego Padres. Mendoza has been one of the standout names, while Murphy and Shildt have also shown great control of their teams this season.

In the American League, the three finalists for Manager of the Year are AJ Hinch of the Detroit Tigers, Stephen Voght of the Cleveland Guardians and Matt Quatraro of the Kansas City Royals. Each one has done an exceptional job with their teams, exceeding expectations and positioning themselves among the best.
