At the end of an intense elimination phase held from October 25 to 27 at the Japoma Sports Complex in Douala, the Gabonese Moanda Basketball team shone by placing third. A decisive victory (78-66) against King Africa of Equatorial Guinea allowed them to win their ticket for the Elite 16 of the Basketball Africa League (BAL), scheduled for November 5 to 10, 2024. This stage represents a crucial stage for access the prestigious African club competition.

For its first participation in this high-level competition, the Moanda club thrilled Gabonese supporters by reaching the Elite 16, despite a course marked by three defeats. The victory against King Africa, during their final meeting at the Arena Japoma, testifies to the potential and ambition of this young team, resolutely focused on the future. The Gabonese Basketball Federation (Fégabab), led by Willy Conrad Asséko, was delighted with this performance which highlights the dynamism of Gabonese basketball.
With this qualification, Moanda Basketball is preparing to join Abidjan, where the competition will continue at the Palais des Sports in Treichville, from November 5 to 10, 2024. There, the best teams from the West and East divisions of the continent will compete for a place in the final phase of the BAL 2025. Expected from November 3 in Ivory Coast, the team will have to learn lessons from its previous meetings to strengthen its game and raise the colors of Gabon even higher.
This performance is part of the vision of Kabrel Boundou, a rising figure in Gabonese basketball, who works to develop and promote the sport in the country. The progression of Moanda Basketball illustrates this dynamic well, showing that the work undertaken is already bearing fruit.
