AS Monaco is no longer moving forward. Announced competitor of PSG for the rest of the season in Ligue 1 at the beginning of October, the Monegasque club has had a string of poor results in the league. After a draw against Lille (0-0) and a defeat in the derby in Nice (2-1), ASM posted a much more embarrassing performance this Friday evening on its lawn against Angers. Without any idea offensively, lost in the middle without their captain Denis Zakaria, still absent, the men of the Rock conceded a second setback in a row in Ligue 1 (0-1).
Adi Hütter’s players were punished by a veteran of the house after half an hour of play. Served at the entrance to the penalty area, Jean-Eudes Aholou, who spent two seasons on the Rock, came to deceive Radoslaw Majecki with a sudden strike from the outside of his left foot into the top corner.
A second place threatened
Deprived of their top scorer Folarin Balogun, Monaco took 55 minutes before scoring a strike through Eliesse Ben Seghir, who came on at half-time in place of the disappointing George Ilenikhena. Opposite, Angers, which has only lost one of the last five matches, agreed to turn its back after a successful first period, and was able to count on a great Yahia Fofana in the goals, author of a beautiful parade on Breel Embolo (69th). A profitable choice for the SCO which, with this victory, moves away from the red zone with 10 points in 10 days.
Much higher up, AS Monaco is stalling and leaves PSG the possibility of escaping at the top of Ligue 1. The Parisians host RC Lens this Saturday at 5 p.m. and could, if successful, take six points from advance. ASM and its second place even find themselves within firing range of Marseille and Lille.
