Montreal, November 12, 2024 – Athletes from 32 countries are expected at the Pierre-Charbonneau Center, from November 14 to 17, to participate in the Montreal Continental Cup in the cadet, junior and senior categories.
More than 40 gold medals will be awarded during the weekend in the different categories.
After a resounding success last year, an edition which was notably marked by the victory ofAntoine Bouchard in the under 73 kg senior category in the last fight of his career, Judo Canada once again expects some very tough clashes for the spectators present.
We will also note the presence this year of the Canadian Olympian François Gauthier-Drapeau (-81 kg) who will fight in the under 90 kg category in Montreal this weekend.
For senior athletes, this competition is a crucial step in their development, as it has a direct impact on their world ranking, which will set the stage for their qualification journey towards the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games.
Furthermore, several Canadian junior level athletes will have the opportunity to participate in two tournaments since they will also be in action in the senior category. This is part of Judo Canada’s vision to provide maximum development opportunities for all its athletes.
“High-level judo competitions are an essential pillar of athlete development and preparation. Organizing a Pan-American Continental Cup in Canada is an exceptional opportunity for our local judokas to discover international judo and for some, to accumulate valuable points in the world rankings,” said Nicolas Gillgeneral manager at Judo Canada.
“The experience of competing in front of their home crowd, family and friends is invaluable and can push them to reach new heights.” »
The action will begin Thursday at the Pierre-Charbonneau Center with the presentation of the cadet competitions and will continue the next day for the juniors. Saturday and Sunday will be reserved for senior tournaments.
Just before these four days of competition, the Pierre-Charbonneau Center will welcome several international participants as part of a preparatory camp.
