Los Angeles Dodgers begin General Manager meetings with great news. Mookie Betts will return to the infield for 2025 and leave the team’s outfield.
Brandon Gomes, general manager of the Dodgers, reported that Betts may be playing between shortstop and second base, as he did at the beginning of this season.
This season, Betts appeared in 65 games at shortstop and 18 at second base for the Dodgers.
The three-time World Series champion will return to the infield with players like Miguel Rojas and Gavin Luxwho occupied shortstop and second base for much of the season.
Rojas secured one more year of contract with the team, while Lux will remain in control of the Dodgers until 2027.
What does this move by Mookie Betts to the infield mean?
In recent days, rumors have emerged about the Dodgers’ interest in signing Juan Sotothe most renowned free agent for 2025.
Soto, who has played right field for most of his career, could receive contract offers north of $500 million. The Dominican comes from 40 home runs and more than 100 runs batted in at only 25 years of age.
Another player who is in free agency and the Dodgers know him is Teoscar Hernández.
The Dominican outfielder has expressed on multiple occasions that he wants to play with the Dodgers again by 2025.
Hernández had a batting average of .272 with 160 hits, 33 home runs, 99 runs batted in and 84 runs scored. in 154 games in 2024. He won his first World Series with the team.
Tommy Edman has one more year on his contract with the Dodgers and could be one of the players who takes over one of the outfields. Edman earned a spot on the team after arriving in a trade from the St. Louis Cardinals.
Edman hit .328 with 20 hits, 2 home runs, 13 RBIs and 12 runs scored in 16 games in the postseason.
