At the Orlando Guaita Roofed Stadium, the La Merced Judo Club held the Mercedarios de Atacama National Judo Championship this weekend that brought together more than 200 athletes from Coquimbo, Valparaíso, Antofagasta, Arica and Parinacota, Metropolitana and the Atacama clubs .
The tournament was financed by the sports gloss of the Regional Government of Atacama 2024 and sponsored by the Judo Federation of Chile, which through its General Manager, sensei Jaime Cañas Canales, the system was used for the first time in the region. IJF (International Judo Federation) for monitoring and order of combat, with the event being able to be held in 3 independent areas.
The club’s coach and regional delegate of the Federation, sensei Juan Pablo Rojas Cailly, expressed about the development of the event:
“We are grateful to the Regional Government of Atacama and its sports gloss that allowed us to finance the project, to the Illustrious Municipality of Copiapó for providing the facility to use the Orlando Guaita Techado Stadium venue, and of course to Mindep and IND Atacama for facilitating the implementation sports necessary for the event, as well as having had the presence of the Atacameño athlete Miguel Soffia and current IND methodologist, and our highest sports authority, the Seremi del Deporte Arling Guzmán Cortés, which gave the corresponding highlight to this important event of our martial discipline of judo.”
