Musah Shines for AC Milan: Leao’s Strategic Positioning on the Left Wing

Fonseca tried the American wide on the right: he is expected in midfield, with a team that will resemble a 3-4-3 against Real. Thiaw and Tomori in defense, with Emerson Royal. Pulisic and Rafa with Morata in front

Yunus Musah is the new addition to Madrid’s AC Milan. Paulo Fonseca chose not to send Ruben Loftus-Cheek onto the field, who was hoping for one of the eleven shirts for the big Champions League evening, and Samuel Chukwueze probably won’t be there either. An unprecedented Milan is therefore born, with Musah on the right to give balance to a team that, with Theo and Leao, will push on the left as always. The classic 4-2-3-1 will look a bit like a 3-4-3, with the midfield Musah-Fofana-Reijnders-Theo. Worth seeing during the match.

First the certainties. Rafa Leao will start on the left, as announced by Fonseca in the conference: “Rafa will play from the start. We expect what we normally expect, which can be decisive.” After two games with Noah Okafor starting, it is clear that Leao will have all eyes on him, partly due to the media pressure these days, partly because he gets excited in important matches. A year ago, against PSG, he played great, like Loftus-Cheek, and dragged Milan along. With him in attack, as always, Morata and Pulisic.

The defense revolves around the classic decision between the central defenders. Emerson Royal on the right and Theo Hernandez on the left are not in question: Emerson rested in Monza, Theo is back and is better. The decision to be made is in the middle, with Gabbia still out and Malick Thiaw, his most natural replacement, certain to play. Fikayo Tomori should be next to him, ahead of Strahinja Pavlovic for the second jersey. The reward is a questionable privilege: seeing Mbappé, Vinicius and Bellingham up close as they pass through the area at 100mph.
