Nacho Barruecos, Al-Qazeres Basketball Club, coach of the month of October of the #LigaRibéSalat – Castilla La Mancha Basketball Federation

The Cáceres team has started the league unstoppably with 3 consecutive victories in the RibéSalat League that allow it to be currently the only undefeated team in the league competition and also be the sole leader after three days played.

Jesús Flores (11/4/2024) | Nacho Barruecos, coach of the Al-Qazeres “B” Basketball Club, manages to be the best coach in the RibéSalat League this October. The one who was coach of San Antonio Cáceres this year is the first coach of the Al-Qazeres “B” Basketball Club. With this award he also becomes the first to achieve it in this league with two different teams.

Barruecos, a great connoisseur of Cáceres and Extremadura basketball, and therefore, of the RibéSalat League, has started the season with the Auriverde team in an overwhelming way, defending its three previous titles and looking for the fourth in a season that promises to be exciting.

Congratulations Nacho for this first award of the season directing CB Alqazeres. You are also the first coach to do so with two different clubs. Unlike the last two campaigns, your team has started with great strength and conviction and we could say unstoppable. What do you attribute this start to in a team that had us accustomed to going from less to more? Preparation or have your injuries affected you more?

Well, thank you very much for this award, although as I always say this is due to the joint work of many people. To be fair, I must say that the great tactical work done with the team in previous seasons by Pablo Carreira has allowed us to focus on implementing the game model that Edu Morollón (Second coach) and I thought could best suit us taking into account count the wickers of the team. Furthermore, the good physical work and care of Ana Bayán (our multipurpose physiotherapist) allows us to be focused on the game and on the players internalizing what we ask of them. And, for now, I think we are on the path to achieving it.

Three out of three in the league start and winning the Cáceres derby on the last day. Did you expect such a strong start from your team?

The truth is that the initial sensations in the preseason made us optimistic and we hoped to have a good start to the league, but it is true that the results are being very good. I think that the fact of reaching figures in attack of more than 70 points on average and less than 50 in defense makes us a competitive team and I hope the injuries respect us and we manage to maintain it over time.

As current league champions in the last three campaigns, the objective cannot be other than revalidating the title, right?

Obviously, we have to be aware that both Edu and I are new to the team and we are still in the process of adapting to the players and that the players also have to adapt to us. However, we are not going to give up anything and we will try to be as competitive as possible to maintain our game during the season and be able to compete for the best at the end of the season.a.

You are a great connoisseur of Cáceres and Extremadura basketball. You are also a member of the RibéSalat League. Who do you think could be fighting for the title at the end of the campaign?

The Ribésalat League has been evolving in recent years and there are more and more teams that are likely to be at the top so it can be a very open season. Although it is still early and there are surprises, Polígono, CBA and San Antonio, due to more compensated squads, I imagine they will be fighting for the title until the end.
