Denmark had been announced as big favorites for the match, so it was not so much the score but more the individual player’s development that was the theme in the Danish camp before the five games got underway. This is what Denmark’s U19 national coach Kasper Dinesen says.
– We are satisfied with the result, but we have been very focused on not conceding a game against Cyprus. The players had to focus on their own game and take that into the matches that they are working on down here. It was about making his own game concept work. At first to keep it simple in there and get a good rest. From here, the players must try to add extra layers and adjust continuously, so that we are sharpened against more competitive teams. Cyprus came with everything they had and were resilient and we got good training out of it which we can use going forward.

The preparations for the match against Cyprus were otherwise not the best for Denmark. Training opportunities were limited, so both the singles and doubles had only had 45 minutes of training each in the Main Hall. Therefore, the Danish squad also saw the team match against Cyprus as an additional opportunity to get some training in the Main Hall and become familiar with the tournament balls, headwinds and headwinds and generally get a feel for the conditions they will be playing in during the next week.
– The training opportunities are not the best, so we work on doing the things we can off the pitch to maintain focus and stay in the zone. Tougher opposition awaits, physically and especially mentally, later this week, which we are trying to focus more and more sharply on. Initially, it is about the match on Thursday, where the task will be a different size, Dinesen emphasizes.
The next group game for Denmark is against Slovenia on Thursday. That match will be played at 1:30 p.m.
