National soccer team: Nagelsmann: “Put a smile on politicians’ faces”

The national coach does not want to exaggerate the importance of football in view of the political turbulence. He still wants to make the mood a little better.

After the political turbulence last week with the Trump election in the USA and the end of the traffic light government, national coach Julian Nagelsmann would like to create a little “positive atmosphere” with two good international matches. “But I don’t want to make football so big that we are the ones who enchant the country in phases where there are more important issues,” said Nagelsmann at the press conference in Frankfurt before the next Nations League games.

Perhaps with two good 90 minutes we could “put a smile on the lips of one or two politicians who haven’t had so much to laugh about recently,” added Nagelsmann. The DFB selection will face Bosnia-Herzegovina in Freiburg on Saturday (8:45 p.m./RTL) and Hungary three days later (8:45 p.m./ZDF) in Budapest. With a win, group victory would be secured.
