The National Women’s Basketball Team will play its 444th official match in its history tomorrow against Slovakia in Group F of the 2025 European Basketball Championship Qualifiers.
The national team, which will face its opponent tomorrow in Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia, will have the 444th test of its official match adventure, which started in 1964.
Competing in the Olympic games, world and European championships, the National Women’s Basketball Team experienced 260 wins and 183 defeats in the remaining 443 official competitions.
FIRST MATCH WITH WEST GERMANY
The National Women’s Basketball Team played its first match in its history on September 12, 1964.
The star and crescent team, consisting of Emel Sayın, Emen Engün, Ferhan Atlı, Alev Adıson, Meryem Yenigün, Sahire Kolcu, Meral Ülkümen and Ayşe Ülkümen, faced West Germany in Munich. The national team lost 48-43 to West Germany in its first match.
VERY CLOSE TO THE TARGET
The National Women’s Basketball Team will take a big step towards participating in the 2025 European Championship if it beats Slovakia away.
The national team, which beat Romania with a different score of 101-54 in the last match, will largely guarantee its participation in the championship if it beats Slovakia. If the national team returns with a victory from Bratislava and makes it 4 out of 4, it will get its ticket to the European Championship as long as it does not lose to Romania by 57 points, even if it loses the remaining two matches.
If the national team beats Slovakia and loses to Iceland in Romania on the same day, it will guarantee the group leadership with two matches remaining and will have the right to participate in the European Championship for the 11th time.
The crescent-star team has taken part in this major championship 10 times before. Türkiye, which has participated in all European championships since 2005, won the silver medal in 2011 and the bronze medal in 2013.
FIRST MATCH 35 POINT DIFFERENCE
National Women’s Basketball Team outscored Slovakia by 35 points in the first match of the group.
The crescent-star team, which beat its opponent 75-40 in Kocaeli, has faced Slovakia 7 times in the last 13 years. Türkiye won 6 of these matches and was defeated by its opponent in only one match.
