Mullin was selected 7th overall by the Golden State Warriors in the first round of the 1985 NBA Draft. He was active for them until 1997 and in the 2000/01 season. During this time he was named to the NBA All-Star Game five times between 1989 and 1993.

During his time, Mullin was a very good scorer, averaging 25 points in five consecutive seasons.

As a member of the Dream Team, he won gold again at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona. After his time with the Warriors, he played for the Indiana Pacers, where he reached the NBA Finals alongside Reggie Miller and Jalen Rose in 2000, but played a minor role due to his age. In 2000 he returned to the Warriors for one season.

He finished his career with 17,911 points scored. In 2011 he was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. On March 19, the Warriors retired jersey number 17 in Mullin’s honor.
