Gregg Popovich has worked as a coach in the NBA since 1996 and also trained Jakob Pöltl. Now he is missing his San Antonio Spurs indefinitely.
The San Antonio Spurs have to do without their coach Gregg Popovich in the North American professional basketball league for an indefinite period of time. The 75-year-old suffered a minor stroke on November 2nd, as the NBA club from Texas announced on Wednesday a few hours before its home game against the Washington Wizards. The incident occurred in the home arena Frost Bank Center.
According to the Spurs, Popovich has already begun rehabilitation. The club said he will make a full recovery from his stroke. Popovich missed the last six games due to an initially unspecified health problem.
Popovich has coached the Spurs since 1996, making him the NBA record holder for longest tenure at one club. During this time he led the team, where he also coached Austria’s NBA pioneer Jakob Pöltl, to a total of five NBA titles. For his achievements he was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2023. (APA/dpa)
