NBA fines Mike Brown

Sacramento Kings coach Mike Brown was fined $35.000 for “aggressively pursuing a referee” during a game, as shared by the NBA itself in a press release.

The incident in question occurred in the second quarter of the defeat suffered by the Californians at home this Sunday against the Brooklyn Nets. A Colby Jones layup attempt on the fast break was blocked by Ben Simmons in a move that Brown ruled a foul. On the next play, Nets player Noah Clowney scored a three-pointer from the corner and the Kings coach was furious.

Brown followed referee Scott Twardoski onto the court after the Nets’ basket, chastising him for not committing a foul. De’Aaron Fox got in the way of his coach, who was given a technical foul for his action.

This is not the first time that Brown has been sanctioned for excessive reactions towards the refereeing body. In December 2022, he was fined $25,000 for “aggressively pursuing and directing inappropriate language” to a referee. In January 2000, the amount rose to $50.000 for confronting a referee again and criticizing him during the post-match press conference.
