NBA Rumor: League considering four-team All-Star Game

The NBA All-Star Game has long been a thorn in the side of fans and those in charge: the stars don’t make any effort, and the game has degenerated into a tensionless three-pointer and dunk show in recent years. Several measures to spice up the game again didn’t work. There could be a new attempt this season – with four teams.

That reports ESPN. Accordingly, the league around Commissioner Adam Silver is currently discussing holding a “mini-tournament” instead of a single game: The 24 players should be divided into three teams of eight players each, and the fourth team would be the winners of the Rising Stars Game (rookies, players in their second year in the league as well as G League players). So you could play a semi-final and a final.

All-Star Weekend will take place February 14-16 at Chase Center, the Golden State Warriors’ arena. Last year, the East defeated the West 211:186, the highest number of points ever scored in an All-Star Game.

“We are looking at other formats,” Silver confirmed in October. “We want more competition and better entertainment for our fans.” The players are also said to have been included in the considerations, including Stephen Curry. A tournament with four teams is said to have found the greatest support in discussions with coaches, players and those responsible.

Meanwhile, the three-way competition between Curry and WNBA star Sabrina Ionescu could take place again on the All-Star weekend. The duo had a private duel in Indianapolis this February. They are also considering adding WNBA superstar Caitlin Clark and Warriors legend Klay Thompson to the competition in 2025.
