The San Antonio Spurs don’t know when Gregg Popovich will return as head coach, if he ever returns.
Popovich experienced an undisclosed medical episode on Saturday, a little more than two hours before a Spurs home game against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Acting as interim head coach, Mitch Johnson said Popovich was “not feeling well” after the game against the Timberwolves, but did not provide further details. Popovich has missed three games since then, including Thursday’s duel against the Portland Trail Blazers, Texas.
When asked about Popovich returning this season, Johnson was unable to answer.
“I would say…he’s doing well,” Johnston said. We talk to each other. My hands are full of it, I’m trying to keep my head above water. So, I haven’t talked about details and I’m not sure of anything… No details. »
Popovich is the oldest head coach in the NBA at 75 years old. In 2020, he passed Hubie Brown’s age mark of 71.
Popovich leads NBA coaches in wins (1,390) in addition to 170 in the playoffs and has won five championships. He is spending his 29th season at the helm of the team.
