The Atlanta Hawks’ 119:129 home defeat against the Dallas Mavericks was the third in a row for the team from Georgia. Clint Capela, who had previously achieved three double-doubles in a row in the NBA, remained rather unremarkable in the statistics book with 12 points – but only 5 rebounds. Despite two ball losses, he recorded a +11 record in his 22 minutes of action, the best of his team.

Irving steps into the breach for Doncic

The Hawks failed to take advantage of the absence of Dallas superstar Luka Doncic. The Slovenian scored 73 points in the last duel in Atlanta, but was missing this time due to a wrist injury. Kyrie Irving made the difference. He scored 32 points, 14 of them within three minutes in the final quarter.

Things won’t get any easier for Capela and the Hawks in the next few days: they face Cleveland twice in a row. The Cavaliers are the best team in the league with just one loss in 18 games. Atlanta, on the other hand, only has 7 wins.
