Schröder and Wagner shine – double-double from Hartenstein
Valuable brilliant performance from Dennis Schröder, sustained highs from Franz Wagner: The two German basketball world champions helped their NBA teams to away victories as the best throwers on Tuesday night. Schröder led the Brooklyn Nets to a comeback victory with a 128:120 win over the Golden State Warriors, Wagner also won the ninth game out of the last ten games with the Orlando Magic with a 95:84 win over the Charlotte Hornets. Isaiah Hartenstein also impressed again for the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Against Steph Curry and Co., national team captain Schröder, who had recently missed the away win at the Sacramento Kings due to problems with his right ankle, was the decisive man. After the Warriors had temporarily taken the lead with 18 points, the Braunschweiger turned up the heat in the final quarter and played a big part in the success with 17 of his 31 points in the end. Schröder has only scored more points in a game once this season (33 points in October against the Memphis Grizzlies). The Nets, who are experiencing an up-and-down season, celebrated their second win in a row for the second time of the season.
World champion Wagner, who has already performed excellently in recent games, contributed 21 points, one rebound and seven assists to Orlando’s success. Brother Moritz Wagner showed a solid performance with 16 points as the third-best Magic scorer, as did German rookie Tristan da Silva (nine points). Orlando ranks third in the Eastern Conference.
Franz Wagner in particular is currently in top form. In the most recent victories, the national player always scored at least 20 points. The recent highlight was his 37-point gala at the Los Angeles Lakers the previous week, when he secured the away win with a three-pointer shortly before the end.
Hartenstein set another highlight from a German perspective with another double-double. The center recorded 17 points and ten rebounds in Oklahoma’s 130:109 win over the Sacramento Kings, showing in just his second game of the season once again how valuable he could be in the race for the NBA championship. In his debut for OKC last week, the German-American, who signed a mega contract with Oklahoma in the summer but missed the start of the season due to a broken hand, showed a strong performance with 13 points and 14 rebounds.
Maximilian Kleber and the Dallas Mavericks were also able to celebrate success. The German forward scored seven points off the bench in the 129:119 win at Atlanta Hawks. For Daniel Theis and the New Orleans Pelicans, however, the negative series continued; the 110:114 at the Indiana Pacers was already the eleventh defeat from the last twelve games. Theis got eight points.
“Harbaugh Bowl” in the NFL: John beats brother Jim
Lamar Jackson led the Baltimore Ravens to victory against the Los Angeles Chargers in the Harbaugh brothers’ coaching duel in the NFL. The quarterback threw two touchdown passes and completed another play with a run into the end zone; the Ravens ultimately celebrated a 30:23 victory in the “Monday Night Game”.
John Harbaugh, coach of the Ravens, remains undefeated (3-0) in a duel with Jim Harbaugh, his brother who is two years younger on the Chargers side. “This is a big victory. I’m proud of our team,” said John Harbaugh. “I just told him he was a great coach, had a great team and that I loved him.” Jim congratulated: “They were the better team.” The Harbaugh Bowl fell on her parents’ 63rd wedding anniversary, Jack and Jackie Harbaugh.
Jackson shone with a total of 177 passing yards and ensured that the Ravens (8:4 wins) stayed in the fight for the playoffs. The Chargers (7:4) started the game strong and took an early lead with a touchdown from Justin Herbert. But Baltimore found its way into the game in the second quarter. A 40-yard touchdown pass from Jackson to Rashod Bateman turned the game around.
Seider, Stützle and Sturm ensure victories in the NHL
Successful evening for the German ice hockey professionals in the NHL: All four players who were in action in the North American professional league on Tuesday night celebrated victories with their teams. Moritz Seider and Nico Sturm scored themselves, Tim Stützle collected an assist. National goalkeeper Philipp Grubauer didn’t play a minute in the Seattle Kraken’s 3-2 win over the Anaheim Ducks.
Defender Seider from the Detroit Red Wings equalized the score at 1-1 in the first third after an early deficit against the New York Islanders and initiated the turnaround to a 4-2 victory with his second goal of the season. Overall, it was his twelfth goal involvement of the season. In the Atlantic Division, Detroit remains just ahead of Stützle’s Ottawa Senators, who won 4-3 against the Calgary Flames. The 22-year-old Stützle contributed an assist to Brady Tkachuk’s 4-2 win and now has 25 goal involvements in 21 appearances.
Sturm celebrated a clear victory over the Los Angeles Kings in his comeback for the San Jose Sharks. Sturm, who had recently missed five games due to injury, scored 7-2 to take the lead 1-0. The Kings temporarily turned the game around to 1:2. But thanks to a strong final third, San Jose won in regular time for the first time in seven games.
