Ariel Hukporti is apparently set to receive a standard two-year contract in the NBA. The German-Togolese impresses in his first season with the New York Knicks.
The New York Knicks from the NBA professional basketball league are probably planning long-term with German rookie Ariel Hukporti. How ESPN reported on Monday, the franchise and the Stralsund-born center agreed on a standard two-year contract. This means that the German-Togolese, who started his first NBA season convincingly, would not be a restricted free agent after the current season, but would instead be firmly tied to the Knicks.

Hukporti currently has a two-way contract, meaning he can play for the NBA franchise or in the G League for the Westchester Knicks farm team. The German was drafted in last place (position 58) by the Dallas Mavericks at the end of June and was immediately traded to New York.
Last season, Hukporti, who was under contract with Bundesliga club MHP Riesen Ludwigsburg from 2016 to 2020 and returned to the club in the spring, played in Australia for Melbourne United. Hukporti became the first player of Togolese descent to be drafted in the NBA.
