Golubic in the top eight in China
Viktorija Golubic (WTA 168) is in the quarterfinals of the WTA 250 tournament in Jiujiang (CHN). The Zurich native’s round of 16 opponent, Jessica Bouzas Maneiro (ESP/WTA 56), gave up after losing the first set (2:6). Golubic managed two wins in a row for the second time this year. Previously she had only achieved this in January at the Australian Open. The 32-year-old Swiss’s next opponent is the Dutchwoman Arantxa Rus (WTA 83).
Wawrinka in Bratislava stopped
For Stan Wawrinka (ATP 149) the round of 16 was the end of the Challenger tournament in Bratislava. Romand lost to 19-year-old Croatian Dino Prizmic (ATP 380) in three sets 2:6, 6:4, 3:6. After a weak start with two conceded breaks, Wawrinka was certainly capable of reacting. But Prizmic acted dominantly in the deciding set. When he served on his own, his opponent, who was 20 years his junior, only gave up a total of three points. In what is expected to be his last appearance of the year, Wawrinka will play at the ATP tournament in Belgrade next week thanks to a wildcard.
