News from the 167th Federal Council

Rome, 29 November 2024 – The 167th FIJLKAM Federal Council met today.
At the opening of the proceedings, President Domenico Falcone took stock of the notable sporting results obtained by the National Teams in this last part of the year: Karate with 15 medals at the Jesolo Youth World Championships and 4 fourth places at the Team World Championships in Pamplona: Judo with the 4 medals at the Kata World Championships and the 8 of the veterans at the Veterans World Championships in Las Vegas, the 7 at the U23 European Championships in Pila; the Fight with bronze at the World Military Championships in Yerevan. The President subsequently expressed satisfaction and congratulated the President of the Judo Sector Giuseppe Matera for his election to the EJU Executive Committee and appointment as Director of Judo Development.

As regards relations with CONI, the President informed the Council about the Golden Collar and Golden Palm award ceremony which, for our Federation, will be awarded to Alice Bellandi, Odette Giuffrida, Laura Di Toma, Francesco Bruyere and Antonio Ciano. However, as far as the Department for Sport is concerned, Martial Arts and Wellness, MGA and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu have been included in the RASD, thus obtaining the desired recognition. This, the President underlined, is an extremely important result also in view of the development potential of the disciplines as well as its potential strategic/economic value.

The President returned to the topic of the Safeguarding Policy, informing about a conference that will be held on 2 December in the CONI Hall of Honor on the topic of “Sport and Safeguarding” and about the sending of a reminder to the ASD/SSD to remind them of the next deadlines for the obligations envisaged on the topic.

As regards relations with the world of schools and the “Junior active school” project, there are updates on the numbers of schools that have joined by choosing the FIJLKAM disciplines and which, at the moment, are 320 of which 77 have perfected the combinations with Federal Technicians which were identified in agreement with the Regional Committee and with the Territorial Sports and Health Bodies. Around 160 schools have chosen to organize “Sports Afternoons”.

As regards the Federal Olympic Centre, the President updated the Council on the works started following the “Sport and Suburbs” tender which are proceeding regularly and in compliance with the new operational timetable after being suspended for over a year and which are currently in the process of conclusion. Instead, for the PNRR “Sport and Social Inclusion” call, the works will be started at the beginning of 2025 and, hopefully, completed within the year and will concern the energy efficiency of the Ostia Centre. Furthermore, the President, with great satisfaction and pride, informed the Council that the Municipality of Rome has decided to name a street after Matteo Pellicone in Ostia.

The President then went on to illustrate the organizational procedures of the upcoming Elective Assembly on 21 December, describing the details on the use of the spaces of the PalaPellicone set up for the occasion, the composition of the Commissions and, obviously, the list of candidates for the various federal positions. At this juncture, the President renewed the invitation to all the “contenders” and the Territorial Managers (as illustrated in an email sent previously) to behave in a manner based on fair play and mutual respect, in the hope that ethical conduct will be maintained. correct. The President’s hope is that the electoral campaign can take place as a sporting competition where, beyond partisan alignments and different opinions, consideration for the opponent and respect for the diversity of views and ideas can prevail.

After having examined other organizational and administrative issues, including the approval of the 2025 budget forecast, and having taken the relevant resolutions, the Council greeted and thanked the President who had reached his last meeting of the Federal Council. A video containing the affectionate testimony of some of our Champions and CONI President Giovanni Malagò was also viewed. The entire Council expressed its thanks and appreciation to Domenico Falcone for the great work carried out within FIJLKAM in his long years as General Secretary first and then as President and there were moments of sincere emotion among those present.
