UNAHOTELS Reggio Emilia concede only a quarter to Pallacanestro Trieste, then fly to victory 64-102 in the third match valid for the second day of Group B of the IBSA NextGen Cup 2024/25. The two rivals open the game with a thrilling back-and-forth: El Hadji (19 points, 12 rebounds, 2 blocks and 2 steals) and Suljanovic (28 points with 5/9 from three, 7 rebounds and 2 blocks) – this with a triple – they respond to the trio formed by Obljubech, Martucci (13 points and 5 rebounds) and Paiano (15 points, 7 rebounds and 2 steals); subsequently, Di Rienzo (10 points) lights up and gets on the scoresheet with two triples in rapid succession and with a support at the basket, only L.Lusetti (13 points) tries to limit the damage by exploiting the carelessness of the Trieste defense (14-9 ). The impetus of coach Comuzzo’s boys does not subside, so Paiano and Martucci give their team a double-digit advantage; in the final moments, the long-distance duel between Carboni and Muller pushes the score forward, then Manfredotti’s support (16 points) and the free throw made by Chouenkam close the first quarter at 22-13. Warming up the spirits in the second period are Suljanovic and El Hadji for Reggio Emilia, while Chouenkam and Paiano arm their hands for Trieste; the Reggio team goes wild and scores a 0-7 run with Bonaretti and Suljanovic as protagonists, forcing the Julian bench to call a time-out (26-24). From the break comes the realization of Paiano, who however deceives his teammates because UNAHOTELS writes a terrifying partial of 0-13 with Suljanovic, El Hadji, L.Lusetti and Mainini, reversing the score in their favour; Obljubech’s penetration seems to give Trieste some breathing room, but it is Suljanovic’s that is worth an important three-point play for coach Rossetti’s team which brings the teams to 32-44 at halftime, thanks to the usual number 15 and the long El Hadji.
Guerrieri’s basket (11 points with 4/4 two-pointers and 7 rebounds) at the start of the second half still fails to unlock the Julian team, on the other hand, in fact, Reggio Emilia records the maximum advantage at +16 with the names of Mainini , L.Lusetti and Suljanovic; coach Comuzzo’s boys score four points in a row with the extemporaneous plays of Martucci and Obljubech, but they struggle to find continuity and end up victim of the new Reggio partial – 2-11 with Manfredotti as the main protagonist – which makes them slip to -21 (40 -61). The speed of the Guerrieri-Paiano tandem forces coach Rossetti to time out, from the break comes yet another wave of baskets by El Hadji stopped only by Guerrieri’s free throw; Manfredotti continues the work done previously by the big man of African origin with five points in a row, then Martucci closes the half hour at 51-71. The fourth period sees the lights go out definitively for Trieste when Manfredotti takes on the role of the protagonist in the partial score of 1-12 which is worth +31 for UNAHOTELS; the total blackout of the Giulians allows Reggio Emilia to spread with a shower of triples by El Hadji, Suljanovic and L.Lusetti (58-96). In the final 120″ there is room for everyone with Facchin, Guerrieri and Di Rienzo on the scoresheet for Trieste, while for the Emilians Bardelli and F.Lusetti are on the scoresheet; Samb’s free throw makes it 64-102 and puts an end to hostilities.
