The 2024 NFL season is in full swing, the eleventh game day has already been completed. How did it go for the Germans? ran clarifies.
The eleventh game day of the 2024 NFL season is in the books. A German player was once again able to demonstrate his top class – and is already being compared to Super Bowl MVPs.
ran has an overview of the Germans’ performance in Week 11.
Amon-Ra St. Brown (Detroit Lions)
Amon-Ra St. Brown and the Detroit Lions are slowly but surely becoming Super Bowl favorites, also due to the German receiver’s outstanding performances. In Week 11, St. Brown came up big again in a 52-6 win over the helpless Jacksonville Jaguars.
With the second-best point yield in the Lions’ almost 100-year history, the pass receiver had eleven receptions for 161 receiving yards including two touchdowns. This brings him to nine scores. Of all receivers in the NFL, only Bengals superstar Ja’Marr Chase has more touchdowns (twelve).
Overall, the Lions are currently 9-1, and after their loss to the Buffalo Bills, not even the Kansas City Chiefs can offer a better record. According to the latest betting odds from “FanDuel”, Detroit is now the favorite to win the Super Bowl next February.
Brandon Coleman (Washington Commanders)
Brandon Coleman is one of the absolute mainstays of the Washington Commanders. The franchise is excited about the 24-year-old, he has an important role.
In the bitter 18:26 defeat against the Philadelphia Eagles, Coleman was allowed to complete 100 percent of the offensive snaps, as in the previous two weeks; in the Thursday Night Game there were 66 of them.
Only in Week 8 did the tackle not play because he suffered a concussion in the win against the Carolina Panthers.
Jakob Johnson (New York Giants)
Jakob Johnson was again unable to showcase his qualities in Week 11; his New York Giants had a bye week as a result of the overtime defeat in the Munich game against the Carolina Panthers.
Between weeks two and four, the 29-year-old played three games for the New York Giants. After his odyssey between the active squad, practice squad and free agency, the 29-year-old is currently on the practice squad of “Big Blue”.
EQ, Dabo and Co.: The players in practice squad or without a team
Although he appeared for the New Orleans Saints in Weeks 7 and 8 of the season and played almost 50 percent of the snaps against the Los Angels Chargers, things are going well for Equanimeous St. Brownthe older brother of Amon-Ra, is no longer around. Since then, the wide receiver hasn’t played a minute and slipped back into the Saints’ practice squad.
Marcel Dabo came to the NFL in 2022 through the International Pathway Program. However, the defensive back didn’t make it to the final roster with the Indianapolis Colts. As an international player, he doesn’t take up any space on the Colts’ practice squad and can continue to develop in peace.
Lorenz Metz is another German who benefited from the NFL’s International Pathway Program. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers signed the offensive tackle in mid-April. Metz got his snaps in the preseason, but the Bucs parted ways with him after the last game. He went through waivers and Tampa Bay struck again and signed him to the practice squad. Thanks to an exemption, it does not count against the 16 available places.
It happens exactly like Metz Kilian Zierer. He also was not selected in the 2023 draft. He then went to the Houston Texans as an undrafted free agent. Although he was able to impress in the training camp, a serious injury meant that the season ended early.
Last April, the franchise assigned him the international squad spot for 2024. And again Zierer was the focus. The Texans wanted to see what he could do in preparation. In the last preseason game against the Rams, he was one of three players who was on the field for all offensive snaps. The bottom line was that he played a strong 151 snaps. Still, it wasn’t enough for the 53-man squad. At least: He retains the International Practice Squad spot and is therefore still part of the franchise.
In the 2024 draft Julius Welschof not selected, but subsequently very much so. The defensive end, who is already 27 years old and comes from the University of North Carolina, was signed as a free agent by the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was able to collect a lot of positive points in the preseason. He had a total of three sacks, two of which came in the final duel with the Detroit Lions.
What’s more: Before the last preseason game, Welschof had the most snaps of all players, 100 in total. He completed 88 of them in defense, which is also where he received the most playing time. But then came the shock: Welschof injured his knee. In the ran-In this interview he reveals what’s next for him. He wants to attack again this season.
Devery Hamilton signed a so-called “reserve/futures contract” with the Pittsburgh Steelers in January. The franchise thus claimed the rights to him for the 90-man squad as part of Organized Team Activities and training camp. Such contracts are usually paid at the minimum salary, which depends on the player’s experience, and are not guaranteed.
In his fourth year – he was previously under contract with the Raiders and Giants – he was hoping for a breakthrough in Pittsburgh. But this hope was disappointed. Hamilton fell victim to the cut after the preseason finale against the Detroit Lions. A decision that had been brewing. Although he got his playing time against the Lions, he showed significant problems in pass defense, allowed a sack and repeatedly put pressure on quarterback Justin Fields. He had to take some criticism in the media.
David Bada remains haunted by bad luck. The defensive tackle had been with the Washington Commanders since 2020, who took him in as part of the International Pathway Program. Last summer he tore his triceps in training, which is why his 2023 season ended prematurely. The Detroit Lions signed him this summer, but the 29-year-old injured his Achilles tendon in the preseason. Another early end to the season, as coach Dan Campbell confirmed. Bada was waived during the roster cuts.
